From Royal Palaces to Ancient Temples: Immersing in the History of Iași

Iași is a city in eastern Romania that proudly holds the title of the country’s spiritual and cultural capital. As the former capital of the Principality of Moldavia, it harmoniously combines centuries of history with the vibrant energy of a major university center.

What to See First:

  1. Palace of Culture (Palatul Culturii): The main symbol of the city, built in the Neo-Gothic style. Inside, it houses four museums: History, Ethnography, Art, and Science & Technology. The impressive facades and the interiors of the Clock Tower make the palace a must-visit destination.
  2. Monastery of the Three Hierarchs (Mănăstirea Sfinții Trei Ierarhi): A unique 17th-century architectural masterpiece. The outer walls of the church are completely covered in intricate stone carvings combining Byzantine, Gothic, and Moorish motifs.
  3. Metropolitan Cathedral (Catedrala Mitropolitană): The largest Orthodox church in Romania and a major pilgrimage site for hundreds of thousands of believers across Europe who come to venerate the relics of Saint Parascheva.

Traveler Tip: Stroll along the pedestrianized Ștefan cel Mare Boulevard, which connects the main sights of the city and is lined with open-air cafes and street performers.
