The Palace of Culture in Iași

The Palace of Culture in Iași is a monumental architectural masterpiece and an iconic symbol of the city.

Constructed between 1906 and 1925 on the ruins of the medieval Royal Court, it was designed by the renowned Romanian architect Ion D. Berindey. The building is a grand example of Neo-Gothic architecture with Romantic and Neo-Renaissance elements, highlighted by an imposing central clock tower.

According to local legend, the palace houses exactly 365 rooms—one for each day of the year. Today, it serves as the home of the ‘Moldova’ National Museum Complex, which features four distinct museums: the History Museum of Moldavia, the Art Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, and the ‘Ștefan Procopiu’ Science and Technology Museum. Among its impressive interiors, the most famous is the ‘Hall of the Voivodes,’ decorated with portraits of Moldavian rulers.

Surrounded by a scenic park and the modern Palas complex, the Palace of Culture seamlessly blends historical heritage with vibrant contemporary city life, making it a must-visit destination in Romania.
