Botanical Garden of Iasi

The Anastasie Fatu Botanical Garden in Iași is one of the best places for a relaxing break in nature and exploring the diversity of flora. It is suitable for both tourists interested in botany and those seeking a short escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The garden was founded in 1856 by the physician and naturalist Anastasie Fatu. Over time, it developed into a major scientific and educational center, affiliated with Alexandru Ioan Cuza University. Today, it is the oldest botanical garden in Romania.

The garden covers a significant area and includes plant collections from various climatic zones. Here you can see ornamental trees and shrubs, rare flower species, medicinal plant collections, and plants characteristic of various natural regions of the world.

The garden is especially popular during the rose bloom season and in autumn, when the trees turn rich golden and red hues. The garden changes its appearance with the different seasons, making a stroll here enjoyable at any time of year. The greenhouses allow visitors to explore heat-loving plants that cannot thrive outdoors in the local climate.

The botanical garden is located in the Copou district, on a hill above the city. After your walk, you can continue exploring this part of Iași, known for its green spaces and university atmosphere.

Before visiting, it’s worth checking the garden’s opening hours and the availability of individual greenhouses: opening hours and admission requirements may vary depending on the season.
